Mini-LaMancha
The LaMancha is the only breed developed in America, making it a truly "made in America breed". The Mini-LaMancha is well known for their docile, even temperament and a steady production of fairly high butterfat. The hair is short, fine and glossy. The face is straight and with the ears being the most distinguishing characteristic of the Mini-LaMancha. The ears which are either 'Gopher', lacking cartilage but do have a ring of skin around the auditory canal or the 'Elf' which has some cartilage and should be no longer than 1.5” long. In does, both ear types are equally accepted but bucks must have 'Gopher'; ears to be registered as American or Purebred.
Note: When photographing your Mini Lamancha for registration purposes, please photograph from the top of the head as the photos below show. This allows the registrars to accurately assess your Mini Lamancha’s ears.

Bucks with elf ears will be registered "Experimental".
Any combination of color is acceptable.
DISQUALIFICATION FROM AMERICAN OR PUREBRED HERDBOOKS
Animals will be disqualified from American or Purebred herdbook and placed into the Experimental or American herdbook despite generation if they have any of the following:
- Animal is over 70% or under 30% of either parent breed
- Ears that are anything other than gopher or elf on does, or anything other than gopher ears on bucks.
- Any animal that is overheight
**NOTE ON HEIGHTS: Currently MDGA does not require heights to be recorded with the registry except in the instance of milk testing and live shows as we know final height is not achieved until maturity (3-4 years old). It is the breeder’s responsibility to ensure their animals are within proper heights, and to submit them to the registry to have herdbooks changed when it is known they are over height.
PROGENY OF DEMOTED HERDBOOK ANIMALS
If an animal is demoted to Experimental or American due to not meeting the breed standard, they will receive an asterisk, * at the end of their registration number. If the demoted animal’s offspring meets generation AND breed standard, the offspring will then be placed in the proper herdbook. If the offspring does not meet the standard and/or generation, then they will be put into the herdbook that they meet requirements.

Erect Ears
These ears are only allowed in the Experimental herdbook
Elf ears
These ears have some cartilage and usually have a tip which turns up or down. They should be no longer than 1.5” long. These ears are acceptable in both American and Purebred herbooks for DOES. These ears are only acceptable for BUCKS in the Experimental herdbook.
Gopher ears
These ears lack cartilage but do have a ring of skin around the auditory canal. Gopher ears are tight against the head with very little or no cartilage. They should be barely visible when viewed from the front.
